## Summary

[**Sevi B.V.**](https://www.sevi.io/about/) is a Nairobi-based, Dutch-headquartered B2B fintech company transforming access to working capital for micro and small retailers across Kenya. Through its innovative **"Order Now, Pay Later"** platform, Sevi embeds stock financing directly into existing supply chains, enabling retailers to order inventory on credit while suppliers receive immediate payment. This allows small shop owners to stock their shelves when demand arises and repay in flexible instalments as they generate sales, improving cash flow and unlocking sustainable business growth. By expanding access to affordable credit, Sevi is strengthening the resilience of informal retail businesses, increasing household incomes, and contributing to more vibrant local economies. We were attracted to Sevi because of its experienced founding team, scalable technology-driven business model, strong traction among both retailers and suppliers, and significant potential to advance financial inclusion and job creation. Through this investment, Oxano Capital aims to support Sevi's journey toward profitability, continued product innovation, and regional expansion, in line with our mission of investing in businesses that deliver both strong financial returns and lasting social impact.

Investment thesis

## How we identify and scale high-impact opportunities

Our investment thesis in Sevi is anchored on the opportunity to formalise and scale access to working capital for Kenya's micro and small retailers, turning a fragmented, cash-constrained informal retail sector into one that is more resilient, better stocked, and more integrated into formal supply chains. We believe Sevi is well-positioned at the intersection of strong and growing demand for affordable credit, an established base of FMCG and pharmaceutical suppliers, and a technology platform purpose-built for supply-chain finance.

By embedding credit directly into the point of stock ordering and delivery, Sevi captures value across the chain while removing risk and administrative burden from suppliers and giving retailers a practical alternative to traditional collateral-based lending. We see a clear scalability path driven by the estimated 250,000 informal micro-retailers in Kenya alone, rising smartphone and mobile money penetration, and a regulatory environment that has already recognised Sevi as one of the country's first ten licensed digital credit providers.

The business benefits from deep value-chain integration, a lean and capital-efficient go-to-market model built on existing seller distribution networks, and consistently low default rates below 2%, among the lowest in the market. From an impact perspective, the investment directly supports inclusive growth by improving access to credit for underserved entrepreneurs, a large share of them women, and strengthening household incomes and local economies. Overall, we see Sevi as a scalable fintech that delivers both strong financial upside and measurable development impact through a resilient and growing retail-finance model.

### Local-first approach

We invest in businesses deeply embedded in local markets, with strong distribution networks and contextual understanding

### Impact with returns

We target opportunities where measurable impact and commercial performance reinforce each other.

Impact Model

## Investing in People, Planet, and Profit

At Oxano Capital, we believe impact should not be reduced to large numbers or reporting metrics, but should reflect the real, tangible change experienced by individuals and communities. While we track indicators such as users and loan volumes, our focus is on how investments improve lives in a meaningful and lasting way.

We start from the individual retailer, employee, or entrepreneur, asking whether incomes are more stable, employment is more dignified, and participation in the formal economy is more inclusive. This approach aligns with the SDGs, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).

Sevi strongly reflects this philosophy in practice. By embedding credit directly into everyday stock purchases, Sevi provides retailers with more stable access to inventory and working capital, improving livelihoods and strengthening the resilience of informal retail businesses. This directly contributes to SDG 9. Through its collateral-free, digital financing model, Sevi also expands access to credit for women entrepreneurs, who make up over 60% of its customer base, supporting SDG 5. And by enabling retailers to grow their stock, sales, and staff, Sevi contributes to decent work and more sustainable incomes, in line with SDG 8.

Ultimately, Sevi shows that we believe true impact isn't just about scale; it's about how a business improves the lives of the people in its ecosystem while staying commercially sustainable.

### SDG 5: Gender Equality

Over 60% of Sevi's users are women micro-entrepreneurs. By removing the need for collateral or spousal approval, Sevi's digital financing model helps close the gap in access to economic resources and financial services that women in informal retail have long faced.

### SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Zamgoat creates fair jobs in goat breeding, processing, and distribution, offering professional development and ensuring safe working conditions.

### SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Sevi's app embeds access to finance directly within supply chains, designed around the needs of small retailers. Automated KYC and AI-based credit scoring ensure ease of use, efficiency, and low default rates, resulting in some of the lowest pricing in the market.

The Future Ahead

## Creating Lasting Value Through Growth

With Oxano Capital's investment, Sevi is poised to strengthen its operating model, diversify its supplier base, and accelerate its path to profitability. Backed by strong leadership, scalable demand, and a clear regulatory position as one of Kenya's first licensed digital credit providers, the company is well-positioned to deliver both financial returns and meaningful social impact. Looking forward, we are excited to support Sevi's journey, contributing to local economic development through improved access to working capital, job creation, and stronger, better-stocked retail businesses across Kenya. This investment reflects our guiding principle, Auxano, meaning "to cause growth," by fostering businesses that generate

Founder's story

## The Vision Behind Sevi

[Walter aan de Wiel](https://www.linkedin.com/in/walteraandewiel/) and [Bartel Verkruijssen](https://www.linkedin.com/in/b-verkruijssen/) first crossed paths in a co-working space in the Netherlands, Walter fresh off launching a mobile pension app for Ghana's informal workforce, and Bartel having just built a click-to-call tool later acquired by Vodafone. Both were drawn to how technology could reach the people the formal financial system overlooked.

Walter brings more than 22 years of experience as a venture builder, including roles as COO at Enviu and Director at Truvalu.startups, where he co-founded ten social enterprises across Ghana, India, and the Netherlands. Bartel brings 17+ years as a full-stack developer, combining deep technical expertise with fintech architecture design, having founded and sold several tech companies including Talqs to VodafoneZiggo.

In 2018, the two reunited around a shared question: how to unlock affordable credit for the micro-retailers of Kenya, whose viable businesses were held back simply by a lack of capital to restock their shelves. What began as a group-lending app evolved, through the disruption of COVID-19, into the embedded stock-financing platform Sevi is today, now licensed by the Central Bank of Kenya and serving over 45,000 users.
